Presenter: Dr. Amber Harris
Advanced Topics in School Psychology (Ethics, Collaboration, Transition Planning)
This workshop will provide practitioners with a variety of advanced topics in school psychology. On the topic of Ethics, Dr. Harris will be bringing her experiences from running the largest social media group for school psychology online to share the do’s and don’ts of collaboration. You will also learn about some ethical principals to consider with emergences of AI in the practice of school psychology as well as other technological advances in the field. She will share how school psychologists can engage in technology while remaining ethically savvy.
Participants will also learn about collaborating with parents of students with disabilities through a tiered approach to maintain and repair relationships. Through her experiences as a parent of a child with autism and a practitioner in the field, Dr. Harris bring her unique perspective to understanding both sides of the conference tab le in the evaluation process and IEP meetings. She will also share tips for repairing relationships when things go awry.
On the topic of transition planning, Dr. Harris will provide an overview of the types of support students can pursue after high school and resources for families and students to learn more about their options. K-12 education has had a framework in place for decades on how to support our students with special needs. With an increasing amount of our student pursing high education and other post secondary opportunities, school psychologist are excellent sources of support to prepare families for this major like transition.

Safer Schools Together Digital Threat Assessment:
Digital Threat Assessment® teaches participants to establish a Digital Behavioral Baseline through a Safety / Threat Assessment lens. By engaging with popular social media applications, you will learn how to find and document worrisome digital media content originating from your community. This training solidifies your understanding of how to effectively use DTA® as a critical part of any modern-day Threat Assessment.
This training will include:
- To apply the principles of Behavioral Threat Assessment to DTA
- To identify the digital behavioral baseline of individuals on the pathway to violence
- To assess the language of online threat-related behavior
- Searching within commonly used platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat
- To utilize boolean operators, people search engines and access cached data
- To validate the source of images and video
- Best practice for online navigation and ensuring privacy safeguards
- To use law enforcement guides to request user identifying information (preservation and production orders)
- To crowdsource localized and time-relevant social media posts from your community and area
- The latest updates to stories, reels, hashtags, and IGTV
- To identify concerning trends and create awareness to ensure safety and mental wellbeing
- To gather public social media data with geolocation relevance—what are the most effective ways to identify potential witnesses in a public act of violence?
- To use social media to find a missing person
- To document your digital findings

“Assessment of Autism: What the Words Mean (and Why That’s Important)” will outline key terms that all evaluation partners need to be knowledgeable about and why knowledge of these key terms are important for diagnostic accuracy. In addition, this session will share factors to consider for the differentiation of ASD from ADHD, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disability, and Speech-Language Impairment.
